4th Street Landscape 5.jpg

Futuristic and interactive melded into a city-defining underpass.

An immersive experience for all who traverse the 4th Street Underpass in the heart of downtown Calgary.

The Opportunity

Heavy worked closely with the MBAC and City of Calgary teams to develop the approach for this unique placemaking experience.

This bold vision was brought to life by Heavy through our thorough PLAN—BUILD™ process.

The Approach

This pedestrian-centered and multi-sensory feature reclaimed the 4th street underpass as a place for connection, interaction and conversation.

Heavy managed several scopes of work for the $2M public art project, including Cloudcrete panels, plate aluminum, galvanized steel sub structure, polycarbonate panels, structural steel and glass.

Heavy ensured MBAC’s vision was successfully brought to life by coordinating drawings and specifications to meet existing sight conditions, including coordination of design, engineering, fabrication, lighting and install.
